AGM 2012 Package:
Continuing our tradition from the past few years, we are providing you with the following AGM package to ensure you have the information you need before AGM.
The AGM Reports package is now considered final unless revisions are made at the meeting.
Election Update from Jack Phillips, Elections Chair:
Please remind the teachers in your school of PRTA elections on April 20 starting at 3:45 PM in the Carman Collegiate theatre. Teachers must sign in to be eligible to vote.
Nominations are still open for all positions. Nominations can be made up to and during the PRTA AGM.
Currently the following people are allowing their names to stand:

PRTA AGM and Elections
Nominations are currently being accepted to run for the following positions according to our constitution: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Professional Development Chairperson and Collective Bargaining Chairperson.
The PRTA AGM will be held on April 20th after the division inservice in the Carman Collegiate theatre.

New Collective Agreement Signed |

The new collective agreement has been signed, and effective March 23, PRTA members will be paid on the new salary scale.
Copies of the collective agreement will be made and distributed to members after Spring break.
We will keep you updated on when you can expect retroactive pay. Enjoy your spring break! |

A motion was passed at the January 16, 2012 PRTA council meeting to hold three ratification meetings next week:
St. Laurent - January 25, 2012 at Noon St. Paul's Collegiate - January 25, 2012 at 4:00pm Carman Collegiate - January 25, 2012 at 4:15pm

I know it’s hard to believe but it is definitely that time of year again, the time when we look through every flyer with the same anticipation our students do!
I hope that you have all had a well-deserved restful and enjoyable summer holiday and are now ready to get back into the swing of things. I’m sure some of you, like me have already been in your classrooms getting organized and making it look like a welcoming and friendly place to come back to.
I look forward to coming to each school in the new school year and meeting with all the members in our association. Please don’t hesitate to contact me for anything; I am looking forward to representing the members of Prairie Rose Teachers’ Association.
Enjoy the last few days of summer holidays and see you in September!

Our new collective agreement passed ratification with the following results:
St. Laurent - 15/15 voted yes St. Paul's - 39/39 voted yes Carman Collegiate - 56/62 voted yes (5 opposed, 1 spoiled) Total - 110/116 voted yes - 95% of turnout voted yes
110/167 total teachers according to MTS records voted (66%).

TRAF Parental Leave Purchases |

Recent changes to the Teachers’ Pension Act allow plan members to purchase pensionable service for Parental Leaves. The leaves must be Parental Leaves and the member must purchase the whole leave.
Parental leaves commencing after June 16th 2011 can be purchased at the contributions required for the first 17 weeks of the leave. The rest of the leave must be purchased at double the contributions required for the balance of the leave. All these leaves must be purchased by 18 months from the commencement of the leave.
Active members can purchase Parental Leaves that occurred prior to June 16th 2011 at their present contribution required for the first 17 weeks and double the contributions required for the balance of the leave. All these leaves must be purchased by December 16th 2012 to qualify for the above contribution rate. Previous leaves purchased after December 16th 2012 will be based on actuarial formula and will be significantly higher.
